the perfection of your mistakes
Today is Saturday. Saturday in Miami, and it's raining. The air is tight with humidity, the sky is overcast, and yet the birds sit on the telephone wires to enjoy the rain.
As I pulled the Emperor, I got an overwhelming feeling of someone in a suburban home. It felt like childhood. A familiar house, a familiar voice, a familiar way of being told how to be.
The Emperor is the father figure of the Major Arcana. Where the Hierophant brings me to the authority of an institution, the principal, the president, the rules of a larger system, the Emperor brings me home. To the person whose presence shaped the structure of your everyday life.
This does not have to be a man. What I'm sensing is a masculine presence from your childhood whose expectations still influence how you think about your future. Someone who gave you discipline, principles, and a way to move through the world. Someone whose love could also feel a little suffocating.
Not necessarily because they were always over you. Sometimes it was the rules. The rigidity. The ways you were expected to behave, the roles you were expected to fill. An old way of thinking that may have come through your culture, your family, or simply who this person was.
Alongside this, I felt a deep sense of completion. Something has been finished. A graduate program, a relationship, a job. Perhaps you're preparing to leave your childhood home. Whatever the situation, I keep getting the feeling that you're ready to see what else is out there.
It doesn't have to mean the literal world. It could mean a life beyond the one you've been taught to imagine.
A way of being may have given you structure in childhood and still feel too small in adulthood. It helped mold you into who you are today, but that doesn't mean you have to become the person who taught you how to be.
I associate the Emperor with Aries and the beginning of spring. There is awakening here. A first step, a new season, that childlike wonder about what might happen if you let yourself explore. And still, I can't shake the feeling that this reading returns to childhood, specifically to a father figure.
When I asked who wanted to share this message, I kept returning to the Emperor. I felt it as a masculine guide, or perhaps the memory and presence of a father figure who has passed. What came through most clearly was this.. the world is waiting.
You belong on a boat swaying in the sea in Italy. You belong barefoot on the cobblestones of some beautiful little town in Europe. You belong in the experiences you've been imagining from the other side of a window.
I'm hearing that you deserve the world.
This person may have given you structure because they believed you would need it. Discipline because they wanted you to be capable. Principles because they wanted you to stand for something. They did not want you to be meek. They wanted you to have a voice, even if they struggled to hear it when you used it with them.
There can be love in that, and there can be limits to it too. You can understand where someone was coming from without carrying every expectation they placed on you.
I can sense the childhood memories you still hold with this person. Perhaps you dream of them. Perhaps you hear their voice when you're making a decision, navigating a relationship, working toward something, or trying to keep yourself disciplined. Sometimes the voice that taught us how to live stays with us long after we begin living on our own.
And then I feel the warmth of a swing set beneath you. The way your skin meets the seat and the warmth feels relieving. It's finally spring. It's finally not cold anymore. You can be outside. You can explore. You can just live a little.
That memory feels dear because it belongs to a version of you who had a little room to be. Outside the house, outside the rules, outside the words of the Emperor.
I know something of this feeling myself. I have found fatherly figures in past relationships, and part of me loved the structure they offered. It gave me a sense of safety and a fatherly presence I felt I had missed. But feeling looked after and feeling free are both worth paying attention to.
If you're recognizing this dynamic in a relationship now, ask yourself whether the structure makes you feel supported or suffocated. Is there room for your voice. Is there room for you to change.
The world is still what you deserve.
The Tower reversed came through as a clarifier. In this reading, it feels like a change you have already sensed. The kind that sits in the pit of your stomach because some part of you knows that something cannot stay exactly as it is.
Perhaps you need to move. Perhaps you need to leave a job, end a relationship, or change the way you've been living. I don't read this as a demand to make a sudden decision. It feels more like an invitation to be honest about what you've already been noticing.
A chapter may be coming to a close, and there is a world beyond it that you haven't met yet.
You have the structure and discipline you've been taught as your spine. This is your foundation. You can carry what has strengthened you without carrying everything that has restricted you.
And you are allowed to make mistakes with it. You don't have to make every choice perfectly to prove that you were raised well, that you listened, or that you are ready. Some things can only be learned by living them for yourself.
Maybe that is the perfection of your mistakes.. they belong to a life you are finally allowing yourself to live.
You're ready. Not because nothing will go wrong, but because you have a foundation to return to and a voice that is becoming your own. I don't think you could have been more ready to begin.
